Vienna’s most famous shopping street, beautifully decorated during Advent. Walk through even if you’re not shopping — the Christmas lights alone are worth seeing.
Vienna’s most famous Christmas market and the one that feels the most like a classic Christmas movie. Just be prepared for serious crowds — it can get so busy that they occasionally limit entry.
One of the most charming markets in Vienna, set between cobblestone streets and beautiful old buildings. We tried Tiroler Gröstl and Käsespätzle here - it was amazing!
A slightly different kind of Christmas market with a strong focus on handmade products and local crafts. There’s also a cute little area with straw and animals, making it especially fun for families.
One of the most impressive cathedrals in Slavonia, with two huge red-brick towers that you can spot from almost anywhere in town.
A smaller Christmas market set right in front of St. Stephen’s Cathedral. One of the most iconic Advent backdrops in Vienna.
A historic Viennese café and pastry shop that becomes even more beautiful during Advent thanks to its festive decorations.
If you’re looking for a special place to stay, this is one of Vienna’s most iconic hotels. Even if you don’t stay here, stop by to try the original Sachertorte.
Our absolute favorite Christmas market in Vienna. The space is large enough that it never feels overwhelmingly crowded, while still having plenty of stalls, food and things to explore. Don’t skip the Ferris wheel — tickets are around €5 per person and it’s a fun way to see the Christmas market from above.
The red-brick landmark dominating Osijek’s skyline and one of the city’s most recognizable sights. If you’re already in the center, it’s an easy stop to add to your walk.
One of Europe’s largest and best-preserved wetlands, and one of the best places in Croatia for spotting birds and wildlife.
The first market we visited and a great one to start with. Smaller and more family-friendly, with winter games and a more relaxed atmosphere than Vienna’s busiest markets.
Another beautiful market in the city center, although definitely one of the busier ones. We tried Bosna sausage and a raclette sandwich here — both perfect for warming up between market stops.
One of Vienna’s prettiest Advent settings, with the palace creating an incredible backdrop behind the market.
One of our personal favorites. Small, cozy and incredibly charming, with beautiful crafts and gifts that felt a little more unique than the usual Christmas market souvenirs.
A beautiful castle surrounded by the forests and wetlands of Kopački rit. It’s a great stop if you’re already exploring the nature park and want to add a little history to the day.
One of Vienna’s most famous cafés and a great stop for Kaiserschmarrn. You can choose between a small (€7.90) or large (€9.50) portion — really good, although not the best we’ve ever had!
If you have an extra day in Vienna, consider taking a trip to Graz for a completely different Advent atmosphere. The Christmas markets are spread throughout the historic center, making it easy to explore the city while hopping between festive food, drinks and market stalls!
Home to the bow, one of Vienna’s most famous Christmas decorations and probably the ultimate Advent photo spot. You’ll recognize the building instantly once you see it.
Start the day slowly with breakfast and a walk around the property, then head straight back to the spa and saunas. Definitely book a massage — this is the kind of weekend where doing absolutely nothing is part of the itinerary.
