Senior Software Engineer, Agent & Backend Systems

Build the agent, and the distributed systems it runs on.

The role

We are looking for a product-minded systems engineer who is at home in backend systems and can also take a feature through to the clients (iOS and web, Android later).

Our stack runs containerized services on Google Cloud: storage, CDN, several databases, queues, workers and workflows, and the pipeline our AI agent runs on. You will get to work on all aspects of the system.

You will work closely with our CTO and our Founding AI Engineer, who architected and built Boop's agent stack, and with the backend and mobile engineers to integrate features across the product.

What you'll build

  • The agentic pipeline behind our AI agent, so it can plan a trip and then book it.
  • Partner API integrations for experience discovery and hotel booking.
  • Core product infrastructure and reliability work, alongside the AI and mobile engineers.
  • Product requirements turned into specs and shipped code, plus Boop's engineering best practices.

What you'll bring

  • 4+ years building public-facing distributed systems.
  • Strong experience with TypeScript (Node.js) services.
  • Experience in the public cloud: databases, search indices, pub/sub services, load balancers, serverless and containerized services.
  • Comfort writing specs: schema design and backwards compatibility.
  • Comfort building with LLMs, tools, and AI agent services, and daily use of agentic coding tools, with opinions on where they help and where they do not.
  • Used to continuous deployment, and to shipping through design and code review.

Nice to have

  • Experience with travel APIs (Amadeus, Booking.com, Viator, Expedia Partner Solutions).
  • Affiliate commerce, referral tracking, or creator monetization.
  • Personalization, recommendation, ranking, or search systems.

You'll know this is you if...

  • You review agent output as carefully as a teammate's PR.
  • You can dive into an unfamiliar codebase and also architect and bring up whole systems.
  • You want the friend who planned the trip to get paid for it.
